Early voting revealed a flaw in Nashville’s election system.
Election leaders say the state’s recent redistricting led to confusion for both voters and for county maps. This is the first regular election since state leaders divided Nashville into three congressional districts.
Davidson County Election Administrator Jeff Roberts says portions of the county’s new voter district maps did not match those from the state comptroller’s office.
So when some voters showed up to cast their ballots, they were given a ballot for the wrong district.
“So to correct that, we went in and looked at specific addresses to make sure that we had them in the same location as the comptroller’s office did,” Roberts said.
An investigation involving the county election’s office and the state election coordinator found 212 ballots had been cast for the wrong district. Races for congressional districts five, six, and seven are impacted, along with state, house and senate races.
