It was a packed house at Franklin City Hall Tuesday night to discuss an ordinance that has raised a lot of concerns. A minister was told he is in violation of the ordinance for holding weekly worship in the downtown square.
There is a new Public Gathering and Expression Event code that restricts public gatherings in the downtown district after 5 p.m. on weekend nights.
Jeff Daniels says he has held weekly worship gatherings in the heart of downtown for the last two and a half years and now he is being told he can only do this once a month.
The city administrator says the purpose of this ordinance is to give everyone equal access to the Franklin Public Square. They also want to limit downtown evening activities that could be loud and distracting.
