Mayor Cooper not seeking reelection good for Nashville

On Tuesday, Mayor John Cooper made it clear: he has no interest in running for another term as Nashville mayor.

“I have decided not to seek re-election as Nashville’s Mayor,” Cooper said in a press conference Tuesday morning.

The news instantly made its way across social media. We asked our viewers, “will this be good for Nashville?” More than 90% said yes.

Mayor Cooper outlined some of the challenges Nashville has faced during his time in office, from tornadoes and the pandemic to the courthouse attack and the Christmas Day bombing.

Prior to the announcement, we already knew of three others who are officially running.
