According to police, two people behind a check cashing scheme in Hendersonville used a homeless individual, that is suffering from the after effects of a traumatic brain injury to cash fraudulent checks at a shopping center.
Homeless advocates call this disgusting, some say they’re not surprised.
Executive Director of shower up an organization geared to help those experiencing homelessness, Paul Schmitz said he’s heard stories of people taking advantage of those experiencing homelessness.
“Unfortunately, it does seem to be a pretty common tale involved in something l like this. That’s a whole next level, kind of, for lack of a better word, evil,” Paul Schmitz said.
“When you see someone and you just don’t view them with the respect that they deserve as a member of humanity, it’s easy, it’s easy to victimize them. And I don’t know why someone thinks that’s okay. That’s a level of dysfunction that I can’t speak to,” Schmitz said.
Police said Marquis Lashawn Watford and Chelsie Lynn Walker transported the homeless person to Hendersonville with the promise of work and payment.
