Man Killed in Saturday’s Collision on Bell Road Identified

The Toyota Camry driver killed in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. two-vehicle collision on Bell Road near Smith Springs Road is identified as Derrick Gilcrease, 36, of Nashville.

The investigation shows that Gilcrease was traveling south on Bell Road at a high rate of speed and, according to witnesses, passing vehicles by driving into oncoming traffic when, while negotiating a curve, collided with a northbound Ford pickup truck driven by Marcial Ibanes-Huerta, 50, of Nashville. Gilcrease, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene. Ibanes-Huerta sustained minor injuries and refused treatment. Ibanes-Huerta’s passenger was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement on the part of either driver at the scene. The preliminary contributing factor to this crash appears to be reckless driving on the part of Gilcrease.
