Governor Bill Lee said he’s taking immediate action to move the $156 million budget increase to Tennessee’s Department of Children’s Services promptly.
The Department of Children’s Services has faced workforce challenges for a long time, one being case worker turnover, which means more cases per worker.
Half of DCS case workers quit within their first year.
About a month ago, Gov. Lee said he’s addressing workforce challenges. Reporter Payton Muse talked to the governor on Thursday regarding the matter.
“Almost a month ago that you stated that you were working on issues surrounding the department right now, what steps has your office taken to address those issues?” Reporter Payton Muse asked.
“We’re also as you know, working to use private contract providers to meet the immediate needs of caseworkers and there are a number of other things we’re actually working on right now to alleviate the strain there to make sure that these children are appropriately taken care of,” Gov. Lee said
