FOX 17 News is learning new details about a scathing third-party investigation into the firing of former La Vergne Police Chief Burrel “Chip” Davis.
This comes after five officers were fired from the department for alleged sexual relationships while on duty and inside city-owned property, explicit photos, and sexual harassment.
Once La Vergne’s Mayor Jason Cole received two sets of documents after the initial investigation showing text messages between a former sergeant and Davis, city leaders interviewed Davis about these text message printouts.
That’s when the city decided to hire a third-party investigation, which reveals former Chief Davis knew more than he failed to tell city leaders.
Investigators say Davis knew of inappropriate sexual relations between officers before the initial investigation by city leaders.
Text messages between the former chief and a former sergeant in the report show Davis even received nude photos and inappropriate videos on a burner phone but never reported any of this to HR, nor did he discipline any officers involved.
Investigators found when Davis attended interviews during the initial investigation, he did not disclose any prior knowledge until city leaders confronted Davis with printouts of his own text messages.
