A sneaky text message in class could cost you in Robertson County Schools (RCS).
School policy says students can be charged $10 to $40 per offense if they’re caught using a phone in class.
District leaders say it’s the only way they’ve gotten phone use under control.
Parents are split over the issue.
“It’s just extreme to me. As a taxpayer, I think we pay enough,” one parent said, who asked FOX 17 News to remain anonymous.
“I feel like this is a good way to get the parents’ attention. And if you get the parents attention, then maybe they will get the attention of their children,” an RCS grandmother said.
Tennessee state education policy says districts are allowed to charge for lost or damaged school property but make no mention on fines to a student’s personal property.
