Elementary Student Brings Unloaded Gun to School

A 10-year-old 4th grader at Tulip Grove Elementary School brought an unloaded nine-millimeter pistol to school today. Another student reported to school personnel that he had the gun. The principal secured the weapon and called police.

The student reported that he took a gun belonging to a relative from under a bed and that his relative was unaware that he had taken it.

Given his age, the student was permitted to leave school in the custody of his guardian. Youth Services officers will be sending a report to Juvenile Court for review.

Firearm owners are strongly urged to use trigger locks or locking gun cases, and store weapons well out of the reach of minors.
